Ray Of Hope Children's Day Event 2019

Ray Of Hope Initiative
Children's Day in Nigeria
As an annual tradition of Ray Darten, on 25th May 2019, we decided to celebrate Children's Day with the kids from the Zone 2 Waterside, Lekki, Lagos, Nigeria. This year we decided to go to an area that needed aid and was not receiving enough attention. We came across the Zone 2 community at Lekki where they live at the bank of the water.
The ceremony started with an opening prayer from the children representative.
Country Manager Mr. Wale Afilaka giving the opening speech.
The Zone 2 district is occupied with several tribes from Nigeria living in unison and their main occupation is fishing. They go hunting at night and sell their catch to provide for their family. The houses are made of wood and nylon patched together to put a roof over their heads.
Houses in the community
The kids are going to school away from the community. After looking at where we could come in to help, we decided to give the children school supplies and flip flops. We also provided families with mosquito nets due to the high rate of mosquitoes in their community because of the surrounding water.
Presenting the community leader Mr. Abesuwa Olotu with mosquito nets for the families.
We celebrated the day with the kids with games, food, drinks and also a mini-lecture to inspire and motivate them about the future and taking school very seriously.
Children participating in a dance competition.
Sharing gifts to the game competition winners.
Passing out food and drinks to the children.
Giving out stationary and toiletries to the children.
We at Ray Darten believe in giving hope and empowering our communities for a better tomorrow.
